History in the Landscape: The Gladstone Elementary Project

On April 9, 2026 the Traverse team visited the Gladstone Elementary School site, observing marble block installation in the outdoor learning area and providing final field placement direction.

Originally quarried in Georgia for the Rhode Island State House, these stones were leftover from its construction—set aside, buried, and forgotten for over 100 years. Now, 20 of these marble blocks have been salvaged and given new life as part of this space for learning and play.

Traverse also designed educational signage to be installed, sharing the history behind the marble—bringing this hidden story back into the landscape where it can be experienced and learned from.
