An Urban Coastal Greenway

Providence, Rhode Island

Overview

Traverse assisted with the second phase of a 1,500-foot linear park/walkway providing public access to the Upper Narragansett Bay on the Johnson & Wales Harborside Campus, located adjacent to Save the Bay. This work was in conjunction with the development of an indoor and outdoor athletic complex.

The purpose of the Urban Coastal Greenway is to provide a mechanism to redevelop the urban waterfront of the Metro Bay Region in a manner that integrates economic development, expanded public access along and to the shoreline, and provides for the management, protection, and restoration of valuable coastal habitats. The short walk offers views of the upper bay including Sabin Point, Conimicut Point, and Pawtuxet as well as the Providence skyline and massive wind turbines at the port of Providence.
