Private Residence

WARWICK, RHODE ISLAND

Overview

The Green River House is located on 5.5 acres of land overlooking the Green River in Warwick, Rhode Island.

The site was previously a dairy farm and is composed of three terraced fields that roll down to the river. The homeowners conceived the new home to take advantage of the pastoral landscape and have a completely seamless integration of interior and exterior space. The new home was set on the upper field on the location of the old barn.

The home features a substantial amount of glass which provide views from every direction. Large glass doors connect the main living space to the patio and pool area which is connected to the middle field with large bluestone slabs that step down the sloped hillside.

Traverse took a minimalist approach to the landscape with a heavy focus on native materials and planting. The entire perimeter of the house is planted with Prairie Dropseed and accented by small specimen trees which knit in perfectly to the surrounding meadow.
