George Mitchell Elementary School

Extraordinary play spaces and outdoor learning opportunities have been created at the new Mitchell Elementary School for preschool through second grade. Complete with a water collecting cistern and runnel, students can gather at the learning deck or in the garden or along the sloped path and watch how the water reacts to bumps, curves and straight-a-ways before leaving the sluiceway into nearby raingardens. The play spaces are terraced down the hillside with slides and climbers that take advantage of the changes in grade. The playground colors and shapes pick up on the natural topography, woodlands and streams.
