Creating Identity Through Landscape

Traverse collaborated with a multi-disciplinary team to develop a landscape to complement the new Nursing School addition to the Fogarty Life Science building on the Rhode Island College Campus.
The final design creates a welcoming front entrance to the building and provides a multi-use terrace that is utilized as an outdoor study lounge and for school events. Ample seating is provided by a stone veneer seat wall running the length of the terrace as well as traditional wood garden benches. A custom sign designed with Cor-Ten and stainless steel is mounted to the wall announcing the new facility.
Materials were chosen to blend with the existing campus palette and to provide long-term durability. A diverse palette of native trees and shrubs provides rich visual interest and lasting ecological value while creating a defined sense of place.
